This romantic weekend getaway is only 45 minutes from downtown Kansas City. So pack up your suitcase, and get ready for an unforgettable visit to Weston, Missouri—in any season of the year.
Enjoy fine beer and spirits
The Weston Brewing Company has a 164-year tradition of brewing beer that was revitalized in 2005, with a state-of-the-art 24-barrel brewing system that produces 20,000 kegs of beer each year (including their flagship beer, O’Malley’s Irish Cream Ale). But the real magic happens 55 ft. below ground at O’Malley’s Pub, where nationally recognized music and comedy acts entertain the crowds in 5 arched limestone cellars. If bourbon is more your style, head on over to the Holladay Distillery. Founded in 1856, it is the oldest distillery west of the Mississippi River. Visitors can explore over 160 years of Missouri history while learning about the bourbon-making process from start to finish. The Holladay Experience will allow you to see, smell, feel, and taste Real Missouri Bourbon in the making.
Tour the wineries
If you enjoy wine, then you’ll love sampling the tastes of Weston’s many wineries. Jowler Creek Vineyard & Winery offers tastings of its 8 award-winning wines, set to live music on weekends. Pirtle Winery is housed in an historic 1867 German Lutheran Church, while Riverwood Winery offers free tastings of their full line of red, white, and fruit wines. Weston Wine Company has “Royal Tastings” of 7 delicious wines—plus a complete selection of cupcakes, cheese, and unique gifts.
Ski at Snow Creek
Snow Creek is Kansas City’s premier ski destination—along with snowboarding and a 700 ft. tubing park. When the weather doesn’t cooperate, 60 snowmaking machines can produce up to 12” of man-made snow in only 24 hours. The 300 ft. vertical drop features 2 triple chairlifts and 1 double chairlift. Rent skis, get lessons, or sip a hot cocoa afterward in the 10,000 sq. ft. ski lodge.
Hike at Weston Bend State Park
Walk through the 1,133-acre wooded park to see the Missouri River from the scenic overlook, the way Lewis and Clark saw it in 1804. Or stop by one of the 5 historic tobacco barns along the 3-mile paved trail loop. A full campground, playground, and picnic shelters are also available.
Shop for antiques
Antique lovers enjoy seeing the many old-time treasures Weston has to offer. Visit the Main Street Galleria to try the candy and fudge while you browse. Sundance Photo Gallery has hundreds of vintage cameras and B&W photos of silent film stars, taken by Orville Hixon. The Farmer’s Daughter is open on weekends with a wide selection of vintage, retro, and shabby chic décor—plus lots of sports memorabilia.
